Management PlanSQGs with onsite treatment must file a Medical Waste Management Plan; plans and procedures are required by MWMA for onsite treatment and generator compliance.
LabelingBiohazardous waste must be properly identified; sharps containers must be labeled with “sharps waste” or biohazard symbol and “BIOHAZARD” (MWMA).
Container StandardsBiohazardous waste bagged and placed in rigid, leak-resistant containers with tight-fitting covers; sharps in approved sharps containers; keep containers clean and in good repair.
Authorized HaulersMedical waste generally hauled by a registered hazardous waste hauler (or allowed alternatives such as mail-back where applicable) per MWMA.
Employee TrainingTraining is required for onsite treatment operators and should align with OSHA bloodborne pathogens requirements; maintain training documentation per MWMA provisions for onsite treatment.
Shipment RecordsGenerators required to register must maintain treatment/tracking records for a minimum of 3 years; use tracking/shipping documents as applicable.
